One piece of advice has turned me from a can’t last ten minutes runner, into a moving forward at a steady pace for an hour straight (good enough) runner.
“Run tall.”
Look straight ahead, with torso parallel to your legs leaning slightly forward, and tall. Run tall.
I’m not an expert, nowhere near it, and this may not actually be the best advice for serious runners. But it’s what got me started and it’s what’s keeping me going so far. So I’m sticking with this, for running, and many other things.
Not “run at this pace.”
Not “run for this duration without stopping.”
Not “run this far first, then this far, then THIS far.”
Not “buy the right running shoes.”
Not “run as fast as everyone around you.”
Not “run until your legs fall off.”
Not “run faster than you did yesterday.”
Not “run because you’ll hate yourself if you don’t.”
Not “run or else you’ll get fat and lazy.”
Simple, immediate, actionable, easy. Eyes ahead, head up, run tall.
